Privacy Policy

Last Updated: January 15, 2025

At MaxStream, we take your privacy seriously. This document explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you interact with our C++ programming education platform.

We operate under Taiwan's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and maintain strict standards for data protection. If you're outside Taiwan, we also respect international privacy standards to keep your information safe.

Taiwan-Specific Privacy Rights

As a Taiwan-based educational service, we comply with the Personal Data Protection Act (個人資料保護法). You have specific rights under Taiwan law, including the right to access, correct, and delete your personal data. We've detailed these rights throughout this policy.

Information We Collect

When you use MaxStream's platform, we gather different types of information to provide our C++ education services effectively. Here's what we collect and why:

Account Information

When you create an account, we need basic details to set up your learning profile. This includes your name, email address, phone number (optional), and a password you create. We also collect your location if you choose to share it – this helps us adjust course schedules to your timezone.

Learning Activity Data

As you move through our C++ courses, we track your progress automatically. This means recording which lessons you've completed, quiz scores, coding exercises you've submitted, and time spent on different modules. We use this data to personalize your learning experience and suggest relevant content.

Technical Information

Like most websites, we collect technical data when you visit. Your IP address, browser type, device information, and operating system help us improve site performance and troubleshoot issues. We also use cookies to remember your preferences between sessions.

Communication Records

If you contact our support team at support@maxstream.dev or participate in course discussions, we keep records of these interactions. This helps us provide better assistance and improve our teaching methods based on common questions.

How We Use Your Information

We don't collect data just for the sake of it. Every piece of information serves a specific purpose in making your learning experience better.

  • Delivering course content and tracking your progress through C++ modules
  • Sending you important updates about course schedules, new materials, or platform changes
  • Responding to your questions and providing technical support
  • Improving our teaching methods based on how students interact with content
  • Preventing unauthorized access and protecting against security threats
  • Analyzing platform performance to fix bugs and optimize load times
  • Sending occasional educational content or course recommendations (you can opt out)

We never sell your personal information to third parties. Your data stays within our educational ecosystem and isn't used for unrelated commercial purposes.

Data Storage and Security

Your information lives on secure servers located in Taiwan and operated by trusted cloud service providers. We use industry-standard encryption for data transmission and storage.

Security Measures

We've implemented several layers of protection: encrypted connections (SSL/TLS) for all data transfers, secure password hashing, regular security audits, and restricted access to personal data within our team. Only authorized staff members who need access to help you can view your information.

Data Retention

We keep your account data active as long as you use MaxStream. If you stop using our service, we'll retain basic records for three years to comply with Taiwan's education regulations, then securely delete everything unless you ask us to remove it sooner.

Data Type Retention Period Reason
Account Information Duration of active use + 3 years Legal compliance, potential account recovery
Learning Progress Duration of active use + 3 years Course completion records, certificate verification
Payment Records 7 years Taiwan tax law requirements
Support Communications 2 years Service improvement, dispute resolution
Technical Logs 90 days Security monitoring, troubleshooting

Sharing Your Information

We limit data sharing to essential service providers and legal requirements. Here's who might see your information and why:

Service Providers

We work with third-party companies to run MaxStream effectively. Our cloud hosting provider stores data, our email service sends you course updates, and our payment processor handles transactions. These partners are contractually bound to protect your data and can only use it for services they provide to us.

Legal Requirements

Sometimes Taiwan law requires us to share information with government authorities. This might happen if there's a valid legal request, court order, or investigation into illegal activity. We'll notify you about such requests unless prohibited by law.

Business Transfers

If MaxStream merges with another company or gets acquired, your data would transfer to the new entity. We'd notify you beforehand and ensure the new owner maintains similar privacy protections.

Your Privacy Rights

You have significant control over your personal information. Under Taiwan's PDPA, you can exercise these rights at any time:

Access Your Data

Request a complete copy of the personal information we hold about you. We'll provide it in a readable format within 15 days.

Correct Information

Update or fix any inaccurate personal details. You can do this directly in your account settings or contact us for help.

Delete Your Account

Request complete deletion of your account and associated data. We'll remove everything within 30 days, keeping only what's legally required.

Restrict Processing

Ask us to limit how we use your data in certain situations, like when you're disputing information accuracy.

Data Portability

Receive your learning progress and account data in a portable format to transfer to another service.

Opt Out of Marketing

Unsubscribe from promotional emails anytime by clicking the unsubscribe link or adjusting your account preferences.

How to Exercise Your Rights

Send your request to support@maxstream.dev with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. Include your full name and account email so we can verify your identity. We'll respond within 15 days for most requests, though complex requests might take up to 30 days.

Cookies and Tracking

MaxStream uses cookies – small text files stored on your device – to make the platform work smoothly. Some are essential for basic functions, while others help us understand how you use the site.

Types of Cookies We Use

Essential Cookies: These keep you logged in and remember your preferences during a session. The site won't work properly without them.

Analytics Cookies: We use these to understand which course materials work best and where students get stuck. This data is anonymized and helps us improve content.

Preference Cookies: These remember your settings like language choice, theme preference, or code editor configuration.

You can control cookies through your browser settings, though disabling essential ones will limit platform functionality. Most browsers let you block third-party cookies while keeping first-party ones active.

Children's Privacy

MaxStream is designed for learners aged 16 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 16 without parental consent. If you're under 16 and want to use our platform, please have a parent or guardian create and manage your account.

If we discover we've accidentally collected data from someone under 16 without proper consent, we'll delete it immediately. Parents can contact us at support@maxstream.dev to review, modify, or delete their child's information.

International Data Transfers

While MaxStream operates primarily in Taiwan, some of our service providers have servers in other countries. When your data crosses borders, we ensure it receives equivalent protection through standard contractual clauses and other legal mechanisms.

If you're accessing MaxStream from outside Taiwan, your information will be transferred to and processed in Taiwan according to this privacy policy and local laws.

Changes to This Policy

We update this privacy policy occasionally to reflect new practices or legal requirements. When we make significant changes, we'll notify you via email and post a notice on the platform at least 30 days before the changes take effect.

The date at the top of this document shows when we last revised the policy. Continuing to use MaxStream after changes go into effect means you accept the updated terms.

Third-Party Links

Our courses sometimes link to external resources, documentation sites, or C++ community forums. These third-party sites have their own privacy policies that we don't control. We recommend reviewing their privacy practices before sharing personal information.
